5 questions to answer when preparing for a chartered sailing vacation

You might be asking yourself, “how do you plan that first sailing trip?” Planning a chartered sailing vacation vacation can be a challenge for those who either haven't traveled much or who aren’t sure what to expect from this type of vacation.

When you’re making the decision of booking a yacht charter with Sail LUNA for your vacation, here are the 5 most important questions to consider to start your planning off on the right foot.

Who will be going?

First things first, who will be going? This should be an easy question to answer. The best part of a chartered sailing vacation is that it is ideal for all ages and groups or couples. LUNA has room for 2 to 6 aboard. Create memories with your children on your best family vacation yet. If you don't have kids or want a vacation for some romantic time with your partner, you will love the privacy a chartered trip provides.

What types of meals do you want?

A chartered yacht vacation is your time to leave the worries of meal-planning—planning, grocery shopping, and cooking—behind! Your private chef, Fabi prepares all the meals for your group throughout your sailing vacation. Prior to setting sail, you’ll let us know your food and beverage preferences along with any dietary or medical conditions in your party.

After that, it’s out of your hands and we take care of the rest! All that’s left is to enjoy gourmet meals created especially for you.

What type of vacation do you want?

Now is the hard part—are you an adventure-on-the-islands type or a lay-on-the-deck, sunbathing type?

When deciding your itinerary, we help you take the age makeup of the group into consideration. Whether it’s all adults, families with kids, or a couple. Your vacation plans can include a mix of leisure like laying out in the sun relaxing with the beautiful Caribbean views, as well as some popular activities like snorkeling, fishing, hiking, or kayaking.

How long will you be sailing?

While we’d understand if you wanted to stay in paradise forever, you do need to set a duration for your trip. Our trips can be booked for a minimum of 5 nights, get more information about rates and dates here.

Keep in mind the longer the stay, the more you may want to pack, which brings us to our next point…

What should you pack?

There are two types of packers—those that plan every outfit and those that throw things in a bag and hope for the best. Fortunately for both types, packing for consistently warm Caribbean weather makes it a little bit easier. Sail LUNA comes fully equipped with everything needed for sailing, safety, and dining. It’s a good idea to pack your things in a soft-sided bag since space is at a premium on board.

When it comes to what to pack, you’ll want to start with the basics like your passport, prescription medication, and non-aerosol sunblock. In terms of clothing, of course you’ll want to bring things to enjoy the water like swimsuits, cover-ups, sunglasses, and a hat. For chill days on the water or the beach, bring casual clothes and a light windbreaker for windy days. If you plan to have a nice dinner ashore, pack a nice sundress or collared shirt. For shoes, flip-flops are good for casual days. Depending on what you have planned, you’ll also want to bring shoes for hiking or water shoes for diving.
